M. Fraise was founded with the idea of putting comfort first! Not simply just the comfort of how the garment feels, but also comfort in knowing your garments are produced ethically & with a focus on sustainability! This comfort is given through transparency, so let's get into what we are currently doing!

Ethical production is a factor we take very seriously at M. Fraise. We believe that every worker is entitled to a safe working environment and should be paid a fair wage. This is why we have sourced our production operations from ethical facilities right here in Canada. We are proud to say that our garments are 100% milled & made in Canada! With this "Made in Canada" label, you can be sure that our garments adhere to Canada's strict ethical labour laws which our facilities are compliant with.

We understand that to create anything new in this world, it results in an impact somewhere. This understanding keeps us mindful to design & create with purpose.

There are many different approaches to be more sustainable, listed below are our fabric choices and practices that we are using to actively lower our environmental footprint.

Sustainability is not simple, but we do promise to make every choice with how we believe we can be most sustainable, and to keep the world around us in mind during every decision!

Recycled Cotton

We believe recycled fibers are one of the best ways to be sustainable while creating garments. Recycled cotton diverts waste from landfills, reduces carbon footprint & saves water during fiber production.

But don’t just take our word for it, trust our yarns certification: GRS certified recycled cotton

We love giving new life to pieces that would normally be trapped in a landfill!

Organic Cotton

Organic Cotton is a great lower impact alternative to conventional cotton. By growing cotton without the use of harmful pesticides or other harmful chemical contaminations, this removes the harsh impact of contaminations towards farming communities, ground water, surrounding ecosystems, and you!

The organic cotton yarn we use is GOTS certified - this certification not only ensures the cotton is grown without harsh chemicals but it also has stringent rules to promote respect, dignity, and equality across the textile value chain. From prohibition of child and forced labour to gender equality, GOTS ensures well-being, safety, and fairness for all workers.

TENCEL™ Lyocell

TENCEL™ Lyocell is often regarded as one of the most sustainable fabric fibers and a huge favourite here at M. Fraise. It is made from wood, a natural renewable raw material sourced from responsibly managed forests and plantations. As it is derived from plants, this fabric is biodegradable. This soft, high quality fabric isn’t just extremely comfortable but it is also long lasting so you don’t need to replace these garments as frequently. Additionally, the chemical solution used to make these fibres is a closed-loop system.

Lenzing, the company behind TENCEL Lyocell, is very well known for its transparency and traceability. The chemicals used in their Tencel Lyocell fabric production are non toxic and are safe around workers.

  • 2860 Liters of Water Saved

    Thats 20 times less!

Repurposing Waste

Each garment is cut, sewn, and constructed to optimize the fabric consumption in an effort to reduce our waste. We love to repurpose fabric waste as much as we can!

  • Off cuts from our pocket fabric was used as the securing band for the cinch mechanism in the Go To Cinchable Sweatpant
  • Our Scrunchies are 100% made from organic cotton fabric scraps.

Making Packaging Simple

All packaging and hang tags are made of cardboard or paper, making them 100% curbside recyclable & decomposable!

  • Kraft Shipping Box

All products will be mailed to you in a kraft shipping box. Not only is cardboard a great protective material to keep your garments from damage but it is very easily recyclable.

  • Reinforced Kraft Paper Tape

This water activated kraft tape is fully decomposable and curb-side recyclable - no need to remove it before recycling!

  • Paper Accessories

All product wraps, information cards, hang tags and any other additional package slips are all paper products that are easily recyclable!

  • Our Future

We will continue to always analyze all the available packaging options and choose options that focus on sustainability!

We do NOT individually wrap clothing articles in plastic

Have you ever ordered clothing and noticed how every single piece is packed in its own plastic bag?... We believe this is incredibly unnecessary, and it produces a LOT of unwanted plastic.

Instead we protect your garments all together in one secure cardboard box sealed with kraft tape. This makes your package 100% recyclable and decomposable while securely making its way in the mail to you!

Being a Small Business

No big warehouse for us, we are a small business! Our operation takes place in a small basement. We store & ship everything ourselves. We always launch LIMITED quantities in each collection, to ensure we can sell every piece. Overproducing pieces that won’t sell creates waste, which is never a good thing. So we avoid that at all costs by aiming low with quantities.

Thank you for taking the time to read about what we are doing at M. Fraise! Ethics & sustainability will always be a key part of M. Fraise, we aim to keep getting better and better with every new launch! ❤︎
